The Friendly Staff at J & K Contracting
Put a face to a name and learn a little more about our staff below. If you’d like to contact a particular member of our team, you can find their extension below.
For 25 years, Jeremy has been working with underground municipal utilities in and around the Des Moines area. After getting his start in the construction business as an operator/laborer with Horsfield Construction in Epworth, Iowa, he went on to work for Dave Schmidt Construction in Cedar Falls while attending Upper Iowa University. In 1995, Jeremy worked for ACI Mechanical in Ames as a plumber and foreman. After attending Iowa State University, Jeremy worked for KRI Company in 1998, where he trained in project management and acted as company superintendent. In 2007, he proudly established J & K Contracting.
As the Vice President for National Utility Contractors of Iowa and is a standing member of the National Federation of Independent Business Owners. On the rare occasion Jeremy finds some spare time, it’s taken up by time with his family.
Hailing from New Hampton, Amanda earned her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Upper Iowa University in 2008. She brought her financial skills to J & K Contracting in May 2017 and is our Accounting Manager. In her time away from the office, Amanda loves spending time horseback riding, seeing live concerts, and travelling. Oh, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes!
Cliffy has been with J & K Contracting since 2007 and has worn many hats in his life, so far. After graduating from Boone High School, he attended DMACC to become a police officer. He’s been a truck driver and a welder, was a foreman for 15 years and a pipelayer for 20, and he’s well-versed in horizontal boring/directional drilling. He’s a certified licensed flagger for traffic control and a licensed Master Plumber.
A lifetime Boone resident, Cliffy claims if it were possible to bleed black and gold, he would. He lives for Hawkeye football season and believes Iowa has beaten Iowa State each year of his life (you may direct all arguments to his email). Sadly, Cliffy has no friends other than his wife, four sons, and his television. Feel free to direct friend requests to his email, too.
Chits joined J & K Contracting in October 2017 and hit the ground running. Her primary goal right away was to “estimate the heck out of the underground utility business” and she’s also played the role of both the estimating project manager and project managing estimator.
After attaining her Master’s in Construction Management at New Jersey Institute of Technology, Chits briefly worked at an engineering firm in New Jersey before moving to Florida, which is where she started her family. They moved to West Des Moines in 2015 because they clearly got tired of the beaches and beautiful weather. Iowa grew on her family so quickly that her husband switched from a Gator fan to a Hawkeye and Chits often Googles corn mazes in the area to visit with their two kids.
After graduating from SCMT High School in Sheffield, Eric attended Iowa State University. In November 2017, he began his career with J & K Contracting as an estimator and project manager. That means you’ll probably see him at the beginning of the project and during the duration, making sure the job is moving along smoothly. For fun, he likes to fly his drone and golf. He also enjoys long walks on the jobsite and is looking forward to getting back into bow hunting. He’s a big Pittsburg Penguins fan when it comes to professional sports and he always cheers on ISU!
Kristie comes to us from Aledo, Illinois (a small farm town just south of the Quad Cities), where she graduated from Aledo High School in 2004. She moved to Des Moines in 2009, has lived in the area ever since. In January 2018, Kristie joined J & K Contracting as our Payroll and Benefits Coordinator. She and her fiancé, Chris, plan on looking for a small hobby farm outside the city where they can enjoy farm life while being close to urban amenities. In her downtime, she loves spending time with her two brothers, two sisters, three nephews, and close friends. As an Illinois native, she cheers on the Chicago Bears and Cubs.
